Kiwi start-up Celo creates messaging app for doctors

November 1st, 2016

A Christchurch start-up has created a secure mobile messaging app for medical professionals, which is being piloted by the Canterbury District Health board to improve patient care. The app can also integrate with electronic medical records (EMRs) and NHI (National Health Index) numbers.

As an example, CEO of Celo, Steve Vlok says a doctor might want to refer a patient’s severe burn to a specialist or more senior doctor by taking a photo with Celo. The patient can give their consent in the form of a digital signature and the photo features the details of when it was taken, by whom, and who the patient is.

Mr Vlok says until now there has been no secure way for healthcare professionals to use their personal devices to send confidential patient information to each other via email, text or apps.
